Online Vs Printed writing

Difference between online and printed writing:

  1.  In printed writing editors use catchy headlines that grabs people’s attention. In online writing the headline include keywords or long-tail keyword that improve the ranking.
  2. What both have in common in the opening paragraphs is that they have short and compelling paragraphs. What differs between both is that online could open by asking a question that intrigues readers, or it may start by accurate statistic that grabs reader’s attention.
  3. When you write a print marketing message, you have a headline and some selling points. But as for putting content on the web, you must pay attention to SEO.
  4. In online people can interact more as they can leave comments on the articles, but in printed writing there isn’t large scale for people to interact since that the only way to do so is through sending letters to the writer.
  5. Online writings are briefer than printed writing because web audiences prefer short and brief writings.
  6.  In printed writing the way to put to people additional information is by using citation, but in online writing additional information may be added by using links for people to read more about the topic. 
  7.  Printed writing tends to be more strict than online writing because online readers prefer informal writing style
Characteristics of online writing:
  1.  Designing your content is important, you may use different color if there are pros and cons or you may use bullets.
  2. Like journalists, online writers must present their information in an inverted pyramid that answers the 5ws.
  3. Leave sense of humor on the door then sneak it in later.
  4. One of the important things to remember with web content is to be brief.
  5. Write something that fits your audience, avoid technical words that won’t be understood, and create content that is tailored specifically to the reader.
  6. Add links of other authoritative websites for further readings or associate other authoritative websites to give your website credibility.
  7. Adding photos that is related to your article is important, either captured by you or from the Internet. Always include an image description and an ALT tag for SEO purposes.
  8.  When writing about an interview, meetings, or any other recorded or videotaped materials, its important to add the recorded audio or video.
  9.  Attach your original document or your source.
  10.  If you have examples related to your topic don’t repost what’s already online, just add the links to it and this will increase your visitors. Add links to old topics related to your topic for people to understand more what is your topic about.
  11. Mapping information, especially interactive mapping this can offer readers highly useful information.
  12. Add space for people to interact and add their comments and opinions.
